Come to your books as soon as it is time, and do not
play by the way, for that is not good; and take care you
keep your book free from dirt: when at your task, do
not talk to one near you.
Lesson 3L
l")o your work neat; let all, that you try to do, be doue
well; for that will give them, who see you, much joy, and
they will love you, and you will be glad of it in the end.
fear to tell a lie, for it is vile; God does hate all
men who tell lies, and will make them feel much pain ,
Avhen this vain life will be no more.
Give no one room to say you are rude; for tliat will
not look well: be meek and good, you will gain the love
of all, and have joy in time to come.
Lesson 32.
Hear what is said to you for your own good; and if
you do ill, take it not hard to be chid for it, but from
that time do not the like; then all men will love to see
you and do you good.
Be just and true in all thy ways; shun what is not
good, be kind to all, and do ill to none; do as you wisli
to be done by, and all men will say well of you.
Keep out of all bad ways, let no one lead you from
the good path; for, when you do ill, you must have the
rod, and that will give you much pain.
Lesson 33.
Let no one be Imrt by you, if you can help it; God has
bid us do hurt to none; help such as want your aid; be
kind to all, and you will gain much love.
