ACHTTIENDE LEESOEFENING.
A bold person broke into the fold, and stole a goat; the
next day he was taken in a little boat over the river, and
he told the judge that he had sold the beast to a coachman,
who appeared to have been his co-adjutor. He was very loth
to go, but at length he laid his overcoat on his arm, and
strolled away. Will you post this letter for me? I shall be
very much obliged to you if you will do (= da) so. A
pound of molten lead is of less value (= valiu) tlian an
ounce of pure gold. All that we see shall moulder into dust.
Life is real, life is earnest (ear = v), And the grave is not
its goal. Dust thou art, to dust returnest Was not spoken
of the soul. In a small cove near the sea-side I found many
tokens, that men must have been in it. You have not spoken
very fluently this evening; I wish you had chosen another
moment for an open defence of his conduct. On the side
of the stove I saw (= so) an old man, who the day before
had been found half frozen on an open country-road (ou = v}
near the little grove; he seemed to enjoy the bri(gh)t fire,
little strokes fell great oaks. Fortune favours the bold.
What is bred in the bone will not out of the flesh.
